eCommerce & Product Intern

Job Description
On behalf of our client, VisitBritain, we are currently sourcing for an Intern to join their growing e-commerce platform VisitBritainshop.com as part of the Commercial Division, on a 12-month industrial placement. This is an excellent opportunity for a student who is looking to gain valuable hands-on experience in Tourism, e-commerce, technical skills and client’s relationship management in a fast-paced and highly ambitious environment.

This is a technical role, focused on VisitBritain’s e-commerce platform management – Visitbritainshop.com using and mastering HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Excel, on-site merchandising, product upload, repricing, product edits, compliance to processes, newsletter and global affiliate support, platform tasks and activities related to the platform in general.

Responsibilities:
To assist the Senior Product Manager and the team on the day to day tasks, and occasionally support the wider e-commerce division in order to maximise revenue by providing the best possible client service and revenue generating projects for the business.

Role will include some aspects of the following:
1. Product and affiliates:
* Work with the Senior Product Manager and Product and Affiliate/B2B team to deliver new products through contracting, negotiation and continuous technical problem solving.
* Work with the team on product loading, product updates, promotions, product schedule, pricing and issues log ensuring all shops are kept updated daily.
* Work with the team and the Finance Department to spot checking invoices and sign up affiliates whenever required.
* Build and update a supplier and special offers’ database accessible and useful for the team and the organisation.

2. E-commerce & reports:
Work with the team to:
* Maximise the commercial potential of the shops & merchandising to drive sales.
* Write copy and update shop content and images.
* Manage shop categories, fully embracing all aspects of the e-commerce platform and its components, proactively suggesting enhancements to the system and its processes and delivering to tight deadlines.
* UK industry and overseas market research & report writing when required.

3. Client relationship
Work with the team to:
* Deal promptly and helpfully with trade and affiliate emails, helping clients with their queries.
* Support the product team in all aspects of the product, trade and affiliate process ensuring the shop is presented to its best capabilities and that clients queries are dealt with good manners and within time frames.
* Monitor the e-commerce platform for issues which might deter customers from buying or prevent trade partners from working with us and to proactively suggest ways of combating these issues.
* Represent VisitBritain at selected trade events and meetings when and if applicable.

4. Team work
* Proactively contribute to the success and workload of the team as required, data entry and checking, creative problem solving, producing reports and presentations, special requests and embracing a team spirit.
* To represent VisitBritain in a professional way, embracing matrix working and team excellence.

> The role is split approximately into 50/50 – 50% technical and 50% business.
> Please note that these roles might require occasional out of hours tasks if and when required.

Person Requirements
Education/Qualification:
* Open to undergraduates looking for a year’s placement
* Open to Computing / Computer Science / IT / Business IT degrees – with clear interest and experience in e-commerce, Tourism and client relationships

Essential:
* Good knowledge and experience in the skills required s (reflected on the role advertised)
* Technical role: interested in and able to show interest in working in an e-commerce environment and back-end systems and solving complex product requirements
* Has working knowledge of web design skills such as HTML, CSS &  JavaScript
* Able to show clear interest in working in the tourism industry
* Fully able to commit to a one-year placement
* Happy to assist during occasional out of hours tasks if and when required
* Open minded and proactive approach, with a desire to solve problems for colleagues and use own initiative in a team work capacity
* Able to prioritise personal workload in order to ensure tight deadlines are met
