Policy & Public Affairs Intern
Job Description
This role will help to support the policy and public affairs team. Working in a small team, the successful candidate will undertake research, support the team in developing policy initiatives and briefing senior leadership, and be tasked with monitoring the political landscape.
The Tourism Affairs team serves to deliver on the BTA’s statutory duty to advise Government on tourism policy. The team works to enhance the status of the tourism sector amongst political stakeholders, manages the relationship with the organisation’s sponsor department (DCMS), and provides policy advice on visitor economy related issues.
The position sits within the CEOs Office, alongside corporate press and strategy.
Responsibilities:
* Undertake research, draft internal briefings, and provide political insight/intelligence to colleagues where appropriate.
* Support team in responding to enquiries/correspondence and parliamentary questions within deadlines and deal with external enquiries relating to policy and government affairs.
* Organise quarterly stakeholder groups to engage with both industry and government officials.
* Support in development of position papers on Tourism Affairs policy areas, developing knowledge in areas where VB are less prominent, as required.
* Monitor parliamentary activity, and write concise reports on relevant debates and committee sessions.
* To provide administrative support to the Tourism Affairs team as required.
Person Requirements
Education/Qualifications:
* Open to undergraduates who are looking to secure their 3rd year placement
* Should be studying Politics or similar related degree
Characteristics:
* High standard of written and spoken communication
* Ability to write succinctly and work to tight deadlines
* Enthusiastic and persuasive communicator
* Microsoft office skills – particularly PowerPoint
* Good team player, able to work with peers on joint objectives
* Proactively and positively role model the organisational values
* Communicate strongly showing respect to others at all times
* Enjoy fast paced working environment
* Looking to build experience in Policy & Public Affairs
Desirable:
* Enthusiasm for British tourism
* Public affairs or parliamentary experience
* Experience in political monitoring or building stakeholder relationships
