Assistant Instructor Apprentice

Job Description

Portfolio/responsibilities of this role:

Provide high quality education and adventure sessions to our users and provide evening activities when required, ensuring the health and safety of staff and customers. To work across teams to develop a range of skills.
To complete the Outdoor Activity Instructor level 3 apprenticeship.


What do we expect this role to achieve?

Apprenticeship
• Attend training events, workshops and tutorials run by Sayers Croft team and Westminster Adult Learning College
• To complete a portfolio of evidence to support learning
• To attend end point assessment

Leading and developing sessions
• Leading sessions on a variety of topics in environmental education, adventure and challenge activities for day visits or residential groups
• Working alongside Instructors to deliver specialist sessions
• Taking responsibility for an area of the Centre’s education equipment and supporting Mentor instructor with Budget management.
• 1:1 meetings with mentor and line manager to support with development

Grounds Maintenance
• Undertaking practical conservation and grounds management tasks
• Supporting the work of the Grounds person.
• Use of basic conservation tools and equipment

Sayers Croft Trust Charity
• Leading activities and session support for the Charities customers, mostly SEN schools and groups.
• Running the Birthday parties and weekend provision of the charity.
• Supporting the Charities Community Education Officer in their duties.

Evening Duty
• Leading evening activities and session support
• Responding to the needs of groups in residence
• Providing duty cover over one – two nights a week between 5pm and 10.30 pm (a Senior residential member of staff will always be available in the event of emergencies)

Health and Safety
• As requested by management, assist undertake risk assessments and update safety documentation and procedures of designated areas.
• Identify potential safety risks to staff and visitors of the centre and work with management to reduce/eliminate these risks.

Person Requirements
Experience:
* 6 month experience working with children
* Experiences of adventurous activities
* Experience of conservation work

Skills:
* Empathy for the aims and ethos of Sayers Croft
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Ability to enthuse and motivate people
* Able to communicate effectively with children & adults
* Able to live in shared accommodation with colleagues
* Willingness to work flexibly including evenings and weekends
* Basic IT skills MS word, Excel & PowerPoint
* Qualifications (Training will be given once in post, it is not expected the candidate will have all of these upon application))
* Degree or equivalent ideally in Science/Geography BA/BSc (hons)
* Archery GNAS or in-house equivalent
* First Aid 2 day (preferably outdoor)
* Climbing and ropes courses in-house equivalent or CWA
* Lifesaving- STA pool responder
* Off-site group walking -In-house equivalent/ MLTUK Lowland Leader
