Job Description
Are you someone with a passion for numbers, looking for a Finance placement for the penultimate year at university? If so Southern Water can offer you a superb opportunity to gain valuable work experience on our one-year student placement programme.

During your placement with Southern Water you will undertake two 6 month placements in the teams below:

Placement A – will spend these 6 months in Internal Audit and Group Accounts.
Placement B – will spend these 6 months in Financial Planning and Analysis and Business Partnering.

Internal Audit
* Work will be driven by audits, but may also be required to support the business to develop analytical tools.
* The role will be involved in the development of methods and systems for data extraction and analysis.
* Responsible for performing information analysis to support internal, contract and forensic audits.
* The individual will be required to work with all areas of the SW business and on occasion seek information from contractors and suppliers.

Group Accounts
* General financial accounting activities – e.g. Balance Sheet reconciliations and journal postings to support production of the monthly accounts
* Investigation and analysis of transactions to ensuring they have been correctly recorded within the accounts
* Assistance with accounts payable (payment of suppliers) or accounts receivable (invoicing of customers)

Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A)
* The role supports the FP&A manager and accountant to provide end state financial reporting, associated financial analysis and forecasting and budgeting capabilities.
* Inform and provide insight to senior leaders on the company’s upcoming performance on a monthly basis
* Responsibility for producing ad-hoc reporting and analysis, where reporting solutions may not already exist.

Business Partnering
A business facing role providing a key service to the Business:
* Supporting the Business Partners in managing and presenting financial performance to drive further efficiency, and in measuring and understanding performance against these measures.
* Complete a short business-focussed finance project and present findings to the Senior Finance Managers.

* Location info: there will be a blend of office based (2-3 days per week in our Worthing office and may be on occasion in their Brighton office), the rest of the time will be WFH.

Person Requirements
* Undergraduates looking to take a year out in industry as part of their degree course
* Preferred Subjects: Finance related
* Interested in a career in finance
* Self-motivated but ability to work as a team player
* Willingness to learn
* Need to be flexible and adaptable
* Needs to be resilient
* Needs to be deadline focused with a structured way of working
* Needs to have an enquiring mind
