Alexei began his career with FDM after completing his MSc in Computer Science and Entrepreneurship at the University of Nottingham. He is now an Application Support Analyst working as an FDM Consultant for our client HSBC. In addition Alexei has won the Consultant of the Month award after being nominated by his line manager. This is his career story:
“Having graduated in the middle of the financial crisis, finding a job in a relevant field was very difficult. Although I had the necessary skills to apply for graduate jobs, lack of work experience and professional references made it practically impossible. A friend recommended FDM and at first I was sceptical about the opportunity but I’ve decided to give it shot.
I really enjoyed the environment as most of the trainees were fresh graduates just like me and I liked the fact that the training was concentrated on the practical skills that would be required from an IT professional. During my time in the Academy FDM on many occasions reinforced our (all trainees) confidence that we were looked at after and our best interests were their main priority as we were advised on the available client placements and whether the roles would be suitable for us.
I got placed with HSBC, the very first client I had an interview with. As a technical support and testing specialist I work with many technologies as our main system is heavily integrated with other FXO IT systems and numerous Front and Back office systems. On the daily basis I work with UNIX and Windows servers and do a great deal of UNIX bash scripting and SQL. I also work closely with the business, our Developers, and other IT departments in HSBC to ensure reliable service and high quality delivery of change with as little disruption to the service as possible.
I thoroughly enjoy working in this role. It’s a very fast paced environment that demands a great deal of responsibility and ability to work fast and with high precision. Although the role is very challenging it comes with tremendous job satisfaction as it has allowed to me achieve a lot in more in one year than I ever expected. It was always my dream to work in IT in Financial sector. The role itself has by far exceeded my most hopeful expectations that I had before or after first joining FDM. Presently, I wouldn’t trade it for any other job.
Through its industry recognised training and an excellent reputation, FDM has created the bridge to cross the work experience gap that plagues so many graduates these days, placing them directly where they want to be. At no point of time have I regretted joining FDM. If I were to go back in time to the point where I have graduated from my university I’d be submitting my application to FDM the very next day.
